Centennial planning committee meeting notes April 25, 2007


April 25, 2007

     Carolyn Clayton called the meeting to order at 3:05 pm.
     The following were present: Mayor Blake, Carolyn Clayton, Bill Laws, Brian Kirchner, Kelly Goetz, Lola Tuikka, Peggy Fisher, Marile Kunkel, Bonnie Rawson, Barbara Scarborough, Public Works Superintendent Ray Clements, Rusty Bonser, Homer and Jennie Hedington, and Kris Lingle, Clerk 1.
     The minutes of the April 11, 2007 were approved as presented.
     Treasurer Kelly Goetz presented the Treasurer's Report.
     City Budget
     The committee discussed the various City funding lines for the celebration.
     REPORTS
     Publicity
Jack Hamilton wrote an article for the tourism newsletter. The article will be used for other possible publicity articles.
     KC Mahaffey from the Wenatchee World will do a feature story in the GO Magazine.
     Carolyn, Peggy, Jack and Rusty Bonser will be on "Open Line" May 18.
     Descendants Reception - Cariboo Inn
     A final schedule is needed for the bags and around town. It was decided that a map of the town showing the different venues would be helpful.
     Visiting Politicians Receptions -
     Michael noted Mr. Tollefson would be handling the receptions. He would like a 10-day notice of the count. Others will be invited to attend. Let Mayor Blake know who would like to attend.
     City Beautification -
     Lola reported that she and Ray Doll met with John Lafferty regarding the placement of the Sunny Okanogan sign. Al Egbert, the original artist will be shown pictures of the refurbished sign. If he approves they hope to bring him to see the new location.
     Master Gardeners should hear May 3rd about the Greater Wenatchee Grant.
     The seniors are on track for work on the Bulldog signs. They have submitted plans to Master Gardeners for approval.
     Float
     The float will make its public debut at Mayfest in Oroville the 12th. Ray will haul the float to Oroville. Homer and Jenny will walk with it. Other helpers are invited to attend.
     Car/Tractor show
     Bill Laws reported he presented the idea to the Friendly OK Car Club in April. He provided them with a tentative schedule of events. They will sign up at their May event.
     Someone needs to check with the realtor for the Food Depot for permission to use the parking lot.
     Time Capsule
     No Update
     Stagecoach rides
     Hamilton Farm will be providing the Stagecoach rides free. Jack would like to get a short route configured soon.
     Banners
     Bonnie Rawson showed the committee the new banners for 2nd Avenue. The Chamber ordered 25 of them.
     Bunting
     Louie and Dorie reported 156 Buntings have been ordered. It should make for a festive city. It was decided it should be put up around mid May.
     Quilt
     The quilt is on display at the Rusty Shovel. Get tickets to sell from Kris.
     Quilt and Art show
     The Quilt and Art show will be held in the Blackwell Building. The Museum will be bringing quilts for display. Carol O'Dell from the Artist's Association will contact the committee after their meeting Mayor Blake noted it might be a good idea to contact Smoker Marchand.
     Street Dance - Entertainment
     Rusty Bonser noted the necessity of coordinating the two groups for scheduling of the entertainment. He would like to print large schedules for display.
     Old Time Photos - Tim Patrick is taking care of everything.
     Promotional Brochures
     The brochures are being distributed.
     Old Photos
     Doug Woodrow will be taking them to the businesses soon.
     Cake
     Former Mayors will be serving. Carolyn will contact.
     Pioneer Skit and Greeters
     Marile Kunkel reported on the greeters. The museum will be donating costumes. They will be putting on a skit Friday and Saturday before the parade. There will be a Captain Bureau.
     Who Stole the Courthouse?

     Sale of Shirts and other memorabilia
     We will need money boxes and change. Committee Members will need to sign up to sell them during the celebration.
     Tribal Involvement
     No Update
     Hispanic Involvement
     The dancers are already signed up for the parade.
     Dumpsters
     Porta Potties
     Locations and numbers of porta potties were determined. Bonnie Rawson will take care of ordering them.
     Bleachers and Chairs
     Mayor Blake will contact the fair to see if we can borrow
     Harvesfest Activities
     It was decided that the Tug of War and Water Balloon Toss would be moved to the Harvestfest Celebration.
     Adjournment
     The Meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
