Geologists will tell you that lakes and rivers are temporary. Ultimately they will be changed. Evidence is clear on Falls Creek about 10 miles above Winthrop, a prime example of a hanging valley, cut off at valley by ice which lowered the valley floor and thus left the creeks falling over a scarp into the valley.
