Cheeseman claims ping pong crown

— Jeff Cheeseman claimed this year’s ping pong tournament title Thursday.

The double-elimination tournament drew 20 entrants.

“We had a good range of abilities and had some very competitive matches,” said Cheeseman, who is the adviser to the school’s ping pong club. “We had enough time to do a true double elimination bracket.”

Cheeseman went undefeated in the winner’s bracket, taking out Nathan Linklater.

Gabe Greene, knocked off by Noah Stewart in the opening bracket, worked his way through the consolation bracket.

He beat Stewart in three games and Linklater to get a chance at beating Cheeseman twice.

Greene won the first game of their matchup before Cheeseman closed with two wins.

Stewart finished third and Linklater was fourth.

“We will use the (entry) money raised to build a table top that will fit over the desks in my room so we will have two tables to practice on,” Cheeseman said.
