Pub 60-plus nabs fourth

Maples doubles twice in opener

— The North Country Pub 60-plus senior softball team finished fourth in the recreation division during a tournament May 11-12.

Ancient Rainiers from Olympia knocked off the Pub, 17-14, in the opener Saturday, Pub manager Shirley Bowden said.

Leading Pub hitters were Randy Benson 3-4 (double); Bill Walton 2-2; Mike Knowlton 2-3 and Don Maples 2-3 (2 doubles).

Ogopogo from Kelowna, B.C., then beat the Pub, 17-16.

Pub hitters included Mike Gariano 4-4, Bill Walton 3-3, Roy Bowden 3-3, Mike Tews 3-4, Mike Knowlton 3-4 and Randy Benson 3-5.

The Pub finished Saturday play on an up note, topping P.J. Construction from Malaga, 19-15.

Pub hitters were Mike Tews 4-4, Walton 4-4, Dan Stanley 3-3, Mike Gariano 3-4 and Maples 2-3.

The winning continued in the first game Sunday, with the Pub taking out P.J.’s again, 15-10.

Pub hitters were Gariano 4-4 (triple), Rick Halterman 4-4, Maples 3-3 and Dan Stanley 2-3.

Old Stockers from Vancouver, B.C., pounded the Pub, 15-6, in the second game.

Hitters were Stanley 2-2, Dale Linklater 3-5, Roy Bowden 2-3 and Halterman 2-3.

Sims Trucking from Olympia edged the Pub, 24-19, in the final Sunday game.

Pub hitters were Gariano 4-4 (double), Maples 4-4 (double), Bowden 3-5 and Knowlton 2-3.
