Quilcene eliminates Pateros baseball

YAKIMA – Quilcene eliminated Pateros, 7-2, from the quarterfinals of the eight-team state 1B baseball tournament May 18 at West Valley High School.

Pateros (14-7) finished with five hits off Quilcene (11-6).

Quilcene finished tied for third with Colton (2-1 losers to Liberty Christian) after falling to Lake Quinault, 11-1.

For Quilcene, it was the first time in the school’s 102-year-old history that a boys team had placed in state.

Volleyball ‘Kick Start’ clinic planned

PATEROS – A clinic open to volleyball coaches at all levels of competition and experience is planned for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Pateros High School, 344 W. Beach St.

Gene Dowers, the head coach at Pateros, will present the clinic.

Dowers also is director and founder of Confluence Volleyball Club, with 35 years of coaching and teaching sports.

Softball tournament scheduled

TONASKET – The third annual Founders Day “Swing into Summer” softball tournament and home run derby is planned for Saturday, June 1.

“We are still looking for more entries and it’s a co-ed tournament,” organizer Jennifer Cory said.

All proceeds go to Tonasket Junior Baseball.
