Body found near bridge

Cause of Nespelem woman’s death has not been revealed

— A medical examination is planned for today, Sunday, to determine the cause of death of a local woman whose body was found on Halloween.

Maria Victoria Sanchez, 29, was found dead shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday near a bridge on School Loop Road.

The Colville Tribal Police are currently investigating the cause and circumstances of the death.

According to local residents, the bridge was closed to traffic while the police performed an investigation of the area.

Police Chief Cory Orr said the cause of death is unknown at this time, and is pending Sunday’s medical examination.

Sanchez had a Facebook page under the name Mia Stanger, The Star newspaper reported. Friends and family have used the site to express their grief.

Sanchez has had a history of run-ins with law enforcement, including a March 21 arrest for outstanding warrants related to DUI, hit and run and driving with a suspended license.

In 2012, she pleaded guilty to third-degree malicious mischief; in 2011, she pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license.
