Historians meet, plan book release

— The Okanogan County Historical Society’s annual membership meeting and a book release party are planned this month.

The membership meeting is planned for 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Malott Grange Hall, 54 B&O Road. Author Nancy (Camille) Cole will speak at 11 a.m. about her book, “The Brass Bell.” The Portland resident penned the non-fiction account of her great-aunt Marion Parsons’ 1924 journey from Syracuse, N.Y., to Omak to teach school.

The following Friday, Oct. 25, the society will host a Matsura centennial book social from 4-7 p.m. at RockWall Cellars, 110 Nichols Road, Omak.

Hors d’oeuvres will be provided. A no-host wine bar is planned.

People who pre-ordered the book of prints from Frank S. Matsura’s negatives will be able to make final payments and pick up their books.

Arrangements for purchasing a book also may be made by contacting the historical society.

Matsura, a native of Japan, photographed in Okanogan County from 1903 until his death in 1913.
