Playground gets sculpture

— A student-made “rock-paper-scissors” sculpture was installed last week at Virginia Grainger Elementary School.

Jill Townsend and Jordyn Boesel made a papier-mache sculpture last year, Okanogan High School art teacher Dan Brown said.

“I liked it so much and had money to have it cast, so I asked them to remake the sculpture in Styrofoam and then had Steve Love of the Beyer Foundry in Pateros cast it for us” in aluminum, Brown said.

He then learned elementary counselor Pete Day uses rock-paper-scissors as a method for the grade school students to settle small disputes, so it was appropriate to install the sculpture at the playground entrance.

Art Club students helped Brown install the sculpture Oct. 18.
