Brewster netters pull into third place

Omak holds onto CTL fourth place

BREWSTER – Brewster stayed in the hunt for a postseason berth by knocking off Okanogan, 3-0, in a league match Oct. 22.

The Bears, who held a half-game lead for third last week, topped Okanogan 25-9, 25-18 and 25-16.

“Tonight the girls brought awareness to MS (multiple sclerosis) by wearing orange jerseys,” Brewster coach Marcy Boesel said of money racied for Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

“We weren’t able to get much going tonight,” Okanogan coach Michelle Daling said. “Our youth and inexperienced really showed. Brewster is really solid. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make the state tournament.”

Brewster’s Brette Boesel went 20-for-20 serving with 6 aces and 20 assists, and Marquette Miller finished with 9 digs, 15 kills and 5 blocks.

“I was pleased with our focus in the first set, but we have to work on our ability to maintain focus for an entire match,” Boesel said.

Tonasket (0-13 overall, 0-11 league) is at Brewster (8-4, 8-4) and Omak (7-5, 7-5) is at Okanogan (4-8, 4-8) on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

TONASKET – Omak doused Tonasket 25-15, 25-16 and 25-25 in a Caribou Trail League match Oct. 22.

“We lost but we competed,” Tonasket coach Jackie Gliddon said. “My girls put down a total of 14 kills in the three-game loss.”

The Tigers produced a great night of serving with Cassie Spear, Savannah Clinedinst, Jenny Bello, Alyssa Young, Rachael Sawyer and Alexia Sutton serving a combined 44-of-44.

PATEROS – Pateros took out stubborn Entiat, 3-1, in a league match Oct. 22.

The Nannies improved to 12-0 overall by winning 25-14, 23-25, 25-11 and 25-21.

(Pateros sewed up the league title with a 3—0 win over Waterville on Oct. 24. More on that match will be in the Oct. 30 issue of The Chronicle.)

Kat Wilson returned to the lineup for the first time since the Bridgeport Tournament on Sept. 21.

The Nannies stay home for non-league matches to close out their regular season. Bridgeport (10-3 overall, 7-1 league) is at Pateros at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, and Almira/Coulee-Hartline (7-5 overall, 5-3 league) is at Pateros for senior night at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.

WINTHROP – Liberty Bell avenged an early season loss to Bridgeport by blanking the Fillies, 3-0, in a key league match Oct. 22.

The Mountain Lions pulled into a tie for second place with Oroville with a 26-24, 25-17 and 25-21 victory.

“Liberty Bell showed up to play tonight,” Bridgeport coach Hanna Coffman said. “They are a good team. This league is very tough.”

The Fillies (10-3 overall, 7-1 league) edged Liberty Bell, 3-2, earlier this year.

“You can’t take any nights off,” said Coffman after her team lost its first league match. “Anyone can beat anyone on any given night.”

For Bridgeport, Diocelina Torres had 20 digs, Jordan Peart 6 kills, Anita Velasquez 5 kills, and Brianna Rogers 11 assists.

Bridgeport closes out its season at Pateros (13-0, 4-0) in a non-league match Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Liberty Bell (10-3 overall, 5-2 league) finishes at Lake Roosevelt (2-10, 1-6) on Tuesday, Oct. 29, and then goes to Entiat (2-11, 0-3) for a non-league match Saturday, Nov. 2.

MANSON – Manson won a battle against Lake Roosevelt, 3-2, in a league match Oct. 22.

Manson fought back for a 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 25-11 and 15-6 win.

“The girls started out very well,” Lake Roosevelt coach Nate Piturachsatit said. “We made very few errors and were meeting our goals.”

The Raiders used a strong defense, keyed by setters Mikel Friedlander and Kayley Duclos, to win the first two sets.

The coach talked to the Raiders after the match.

“We can overcome it with some quality practices before Liberty Bell on Tuesday, which is senior night,” Piturachsatit said. “We feel like we can compete with anyone in the league, we just have to overcome ourselves first.”

As a team, the Raiders made 82 percent of its serves with 16 aces and passed 43 percent to the setter.

Liberty Bell (10-3 overall, 5-2 league) is at Lake Roosevelt (2-10, 1-6) on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
