Firewise workshop set for Winthrop

— Okanogan Conservation District plans a Firewise workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Winthrop Fire Station, 223 Englar St.

The workshop is in partnership with the state Department of Natural Resources, Okanogan County and Okanogan Fire District No. 6.

Local fire managers will discuss ways to prepare a home and property for wildfire, and how to react when a wildfire is in the area.

An optional field trip may be scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. to see Firewise techniques being implemented on private property.

Light refreshments will be provided.

The national Firewise Communities program is an interagency program designed to encourage local solutions for wildfire safety.

The program offers simple ways community members can work together to prevent their properties from becoming fuel for a wildfire.
