Forest plans burning

— Spring prescribed burning could begin this week in the Colville National Forest.

Fire managers are keeping a close eye on the weather and moisture conditions to know when to begin burning. Prescribed burning could continue into June.

In Ferry County, smoke from burning may be seen west of Lake Roosevelt near Paradise Peak, state Highway 20 on Sherman Pass and U.S. Highway 395 in the Renner Lake area north of Barstow and the Summit Mountain area northeast of Orient.

Residents in Republic can expect to see smoke east of Curlew Lake, from Herron Creek Road and Tonasket Creek. Burning also is planned northwest of Curlew near Vulcan Mountain.

North of Republic, smoke may be visible from the North Fork Trout Creek area and north of county Highway 602 (Boulder Creek Road).
