REPUBLIC A local man was injured Friday when he was struck by a vehicle on state Highway 20 three miles east of town.
Brandon J. Smith, 30, ran from north to south across the highway and into the path of a car driven by Penelope R. Ripple, 55, Republic. The Washington State Patrol said Smith was intoxicated and intentionally ran across the roadat 7:40 p.m.
Smith was taken to Ferry County Memorial Hospital in Republic and then airlifted to the Tri-Cities.
Drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, the patrol said.
Ripple’s car was damaged, but driven from the scene.
The crash is under investigation.
