Anti-texting ‘crash’ planned

— First responders will join with the Tonasket School District and North Valley Hospital in an anti-texting exercise later this month.

The April 29 “Don’t Text and Drive” exercise involves a simulated head-on crash between a school bus and a car, Glenda Beauregard of Okanogan County Emergency Management said.

Agencies involved include the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Tonasket Police Department, Tonasket Fire District/Fire District No. 4, Aeneas Valley Fire District No. 16, Tonasket and Oroville emergency medical services, state Department of Emergency Management and the county 911 dispatch center.

Beauregard said the scene will be in the Colony Self Storage parking lot. Students will simulate being the victims and will be taken to North Valley Hospital by ambulance. At the same time, the school district will be notified and will conduct family notification and reunification.
