OKANOGAN Chelan scored a late goal for a 1-0 soccer victory over Okanogan on Saturday that completed a two-game season sweep.
“Chelan and Okanogan have been going back forth for third and fourth places in league,” Chelan assistant soccer coach Jim Broome said. “Both teams came to the game knowing how important this game was for the post season. Both teams came to play and gave everything they had.”
Chelan, which blanked Okanogan 2-0 earlier this year, scored on a Cristian Barajas goal (assist by Joaquin Garcia) in the 70th minute (games are to 80 minutes).
Okanogan finished with 23 shots on goal compared to 20 for Chelan.
Okanogan (9-3 overall, 7-3 league) is at Cashmere (3-9, 2-8) on Friday before taking on Omak (0-12, 0-10) at home May 6.
QUINCY – Quincy blanked Omak, 8-0, in a Caribou Trail League match Saturday.
“I know it sounds weird, but we were very happy with that score,” Omak coach Chris Werner said. “Here (in the game at Omak) they were up 10-0 at half. We kept them to 4-0 there. You could tell they were getting frustrated with not being able to score at will. Overall, we did what we were hoping to do.”
Omak (0-12 overall, 0-10 league) is at Cascade (3-8-1, 3-7) on Saturday.
OROVILLE – Manson edged Oroville, 5-3, in a North-Central 2B League soccer match Saturday.
Scoring was not received.
Oroville (1-7-2 overall, 0-4 league) is at Bridgeport (6-3, 1-1) on Thursday before returning home for Liberty Bell (9-3, 2-1) on Saturday.
BREWSTER – Luis Orozco scored four goals to lead Brewster past Cashmere, 7-1, in a Caribou Trail League soccer match Saturday.
Others with goals included Luis Rosales, Ricardo Garcia and Roberto Perez.
Rosales finished with 2 saves and Cristian Talavera had an assist.
Goalkeepers Isidro Najera produced two saves in the first half and Victor Chacon a save in the second half.
Cashmere got its lone goal from Adrian Farias.
Brewster (9-2 overall, 8-2 league) is at Chelan (7-4-1, 7-3) on Saturday.
TONASKET – Tonasket shut out Cascade, 3-0, in a Caribou Trail League soccer match Saturday.
“I think we played our best half of the year,” Tonasket coach Jack Goyette said. “(It was) a very competitive game. Both teams played hard.”
Tonasket led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Michael Orozco and Carlos Abrego. Elias Abrego and Cesar Reynoso each got assists.
Isaiah Albright scored the third goal on an assist from Elias Abrego in the second half.
“I really like the way the guys are playing together and trusting each other,” Goyette said. “We are a good team when we play that way.”
League-leading Quincy (9-3 overall, 9-1 league) is at Tonasket (6-6, 4-6) on Saturday.
WINTHROP – Okanogan came away with a 7-1 non-league win over Liberty Bell on Thursday.
Okanogan’s Arnulfo Mercado scored first off a corner by Enrique Vargas, whose shot reached Jason Perez and then to Mercado.
Perez put in the next three goals on assists from Vargas, Fabian Rodriguez and Arturo Ramos.
James Colbert capped the first half (5-0) on an assist from Vargas.
Liberty Bell scored early in the second half before Jesus Menchaca scored on an assist from Tony Klepec.
Anthony Payton scored the final goal unassisted.
