Phone, 911 service out in much of the Methow

— Telephone land lines and 911 service is not working from the Carlton area northward.

The outage was caused by a new break in the fiber optic cable in the Carlton area, Okanogan County Chief of Special Operations Mike Worden said.

He advised people to use wireless phones when trying to reach the 911 dispatch center or to contact Twisp or Winthrop town halls, which have radio communications with the dispatch center.

The outage is expected to last into Monday evening. He said an updated method of reaching 911 will be provided after the town halls’ regular business hours.

Police, fire and emergency medical services personnel all have radio communications with the 911 dispatch center.
