Meeting set tonight to discuss fire near Keller

— A community meeting to discuss the Devil’s Elbow Complex fire and management action is set for 7 p.m. tonight, at the Keller Community Center, 11669 Highway 21.

According to a press release Wednesday morning, one outbuilding has burned and at least 50 homes and 50 other structures are threatened.

Officials say fire burning between Republic and Keller has blazed across 2,500 acres of land and continues to grow.

Information on containment was not available.

Level 3 (highest) evacuations have been issued to residents along state Highway 21 from Bridge Creek Road to Thirty Mile Road.

“This indicates and immediate threat,” the press release said. “People should leave the area immediately.”

A level 1 evacuation has been issued for residents along state Highway 21 from Thirty Mile Road to BIA Road 1002, near South Nanamkin Road.

A shelter has been established for displaced residents at the Keller Community Center.

The lightning caused fire began Saturday.
