TONASKET The Tonasket Comancheros will host an evening of fireworks, ice skating and a community potluck tonight at the town's rodeo grounds, 2 Rodeo Road.
The night will kick off at 6 p.m. with a community potluck followed by ice skating in the arena. Those in attendance are encouraged to bring a dish.
A club spokesman said that although afternoon sunlight has melted a portion of the 4-inch thick layer of ice, organizers are hopeful the rink will be ready for use by dusk.
“Believe it or not, the ice is melting today,” a statement from the organization said. “If it re-freezes we’ll have an ice skating rink.”
A series of bonfires are also planned throughout the grounds.
Fireworks will be launched later in the evening.
“We’re hoping for a great participation, (it’s) something the Comancheros can give back to the community,” the organization said.
The event is free to attend.
