REPUBLIC Wednesday was cold – colder than it’s been in town for a century.
A new record low daytime high was set Wednesday at 11 degrees, the National Weather Service said. The old record was 13 degrees, set in 1914.
The day’s low tied the record low of minus 15, also set in 1914.
Wednesday also brought records for Grand Coulee.
A new record cold high temperature was set at 18 degrees, down from the previous record of 19 degrees in 1985.
Grand Coulee also got a new record low, at 1 degree. The previous record low was 3 degrees, set in 1949.
No other area records have been broken in the past few days.
As of mid-morning Thursday, Omak had 4 degrees. The forecast calls for continued cold through the week, with the temperature warming to 28 degrees on Sunday and the chance of snow increasing Sunday night and Monday.
