EPHRATA The Pateros High School boys basketball team came ever so close to getting to the state tournament in Spokane.
The Billygoats fell 45-36 to Soap Lake in the Central Washington 1B district championship Thursday.
Then Saturday, Entiat eliminated Pateros, 59-44.
“Entiat played tough on Saturday,” Pateros coach Marcus Stennes said. “They were hitting shots and we had trouble finding their shooters. We didn’t shoot the ball that bad, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with Entiat.”
Entiat fired away in the first quarter to lead 20-7.
“They came out and were ready to go,” Stennes said. “We couldn’t get anything going early. We could never really recover from that first quarter.”
Pateros (13-7) played fairly even with Entiat (13-10) the rest of the way.
“We had a great year,” the coach said. “We were able to win our league and play in the district championship, which is something this group hasn’t done before. We had two chances to make it to regionals. I’m very proud of the effort my guys put out all season.”
