Bulldogs rout Jackrabbits

Local girls keep Quincy pinned down, 67-13

— Okanogan blasted Quincy, 67-13, in a girls Caribou Trail League basketball game Saturday.

The Bulldogs followed up a 17-4 first quarter with a 32-2 second period for a 49-6 halftime lead.

“We started out pretty sluggish,” Okanogan coach Bryan Boesel said. “By them playing hard the night before and the long bus ride, the girls took a quarter to get started. “After the first quarter the girls played well.

“Everybody got some minutes in the second half. Our starters did not play fourth quarter. Our second group played the whole fourth quarter.”

Jill Townsend scored 19 points, Jordyn Boesel 16 and Cayden Diefenbach 10 for Okanogan.

Cashmere (10-0 overall, 4-0 league) is at Okanogan (9-0, 3-0) on Saturday.

Chelan tops Omak

CHELAN – The Chelan girls pulled away in the second half to top Omak, 50-25, on Saturday.

The Goats led 21-12 at the half and 35-22 after three quarters.

Despite the lopsided score, Lindsey Hughes shined with 9 points, all in the third quarter, and 16 rebounds (9 defensive) for Omak.

“It looked like it would be a close game, until we got into early foul trouble,” Omak coach Rolland Hansen said.

Chelan went to the foul line 34 times, making 16 while Omak sat players in the second and fourth quarters.

Omak made 4 of 17 free throws.

Chelan won the battle of the boards, 41-31.

Emma Stockholm finished with 15 points while Abby Phelps added 12 points and 12 rebounds for Chelan.

Bears open fast

BREWSTER – The Brewster girls used a strong first quarter to help get past Cascade, 74-53, in a league game Saturday.

The Bears opened fast with a 24-13 run.

Brewster led 41-27 at the half and 59-38 after three quarters.

Chandler Smith scored 29 points, Monica Landdeck 18 and Brette Boesel 15 for Brewster.

Brewster (10-0) is at Reardan (2-9) for a non-league game on Saturday.

Girls down Selkirk

SELKIRK – Republic ran away from the Selkirk girls, 61-31, in a Northeast 1B League game Saturday.

The Tigers led 21-7 after the first quarter and limited the Rangers to 3 points in the second quarter for a 36-10 at the half.

Savannah Bowe scored 17 points and Sierra McQuay 11 points for Republic.

Chewelah (3-6) is at Republic (9-1 overall, 4-0 league) for a non-league game Friday. The Tigers head to Northport (0-9, 0-5) on Saturday.

CURLEW – Cusick girls jumped out to a 21-5 first quarter lead before devouring Curlew, 60-39, in a league game Saturday.

Kayleona Fanning scored 14 points, Haleigh Gibson 12 and Lindsey Gibson 10 for Curlew.

Columbia (3-5 overall, 1-1 league) is at Curlew (3-6, 2-3) on Friday. The Cougars go to Wilbur-Creston (9-0) in a non-league game Saturday.

TONASKET – The Cashmere girls cruised to an easy victory over Tonasket, 58-9, in a Caribou Trail League game Saturday.

The Tigers scored no more than 4 points in any quarter.

Hornets win, 41-38

INCHELIUM – Inchelium pulled out a 41-38 victory over the Curlew girls in a Northeast 1B League game Friday.

Curlew led 23-20 at the half before the Hornets won the second half, 21-15.

TaSheena Kohler scored 16 points, Mariah Zacherle 14 and Olivia Williams 10 for Inchelium.

Kayleona Fanning finished with 15 points for Curlew. Lindsey Gibson had 11 points and Haleigh Gibson had 10.

Inchelium (2-2 overall, 2-1 league) is at Cusick (5-3, 3-2) on Friday and returns home for Selkirk (5-5, 2-2) on Saturday.

REPUBLIC – The Republic High School girls basketball team plowed under Columbia, 67-29, on Friday.

The Tigers led 30-13 at the half before easily capturing the victory.

Shania Graham finished with 23 points, 11 steals, 8 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the Tigers.

Savannah Bowe scored 15 points for Republic.

Asia Keiffer scored 18 points for Columbia.

Bears slam Tigers

BREWSTER – Brewster flew past Tonasket, 70-16, in a league game Friday.

Chandler Smith scored 24 points for the Bears, which led 16-4 after the first quarter.

Monica Landdeck added 21 points and Brette Boesel 15.
