Derby plans look good

Anglers finding lots of trout in Sidley

— The Oroville Chamber of Commerce continues to make plans for its annual ice fishing tournament on Saturday of Presidents Day weekend in mid-February.

“Fishing is looking better at Sidley Lake this year. Reports are (that) folks are ice fishing and catching fish and the water quality is better,” chamber President Clyde Andrews said.

James Iler, who lives on Fletcher Mountain and was on his fourth trip ice fishing this winter on Jan. 2, told chamber officials he caught his limit on each trip and noticed some techniques work better than others.

Anglers at the last three years’ tournaments have gotten skunked, with no fish landed.

Iler said he’s looking forward to the tournament and hopes some of his friends from Seattle will come over and join him, Andrews said.

The chamber has various plans for the tournament. Anyone wanting to help can contact Sandy Andrews at the Camaray Motel, 1320 Main St., or Robin Stice at Eden Valley Guest Ranch, 31 Eden Valley Lane.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Sidley Lake aerator operation and the Oroville Visitor Center.

An arts and crafts fair, dog sledding demonstration and pancake breakfast are planned as part of the event.
