OMAK A local man remained hospitalized Monday after being struck by a vehicle in front of The Dollar Tree, 703 Omache Drive, last week.
Jeannette Kent, 62, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and driving under the influence after allegedly striking Francis Louie, 85, at about 2:08 p.m. Friday.
As of Monday, Kent, a Riverside resident, was still incarcerated in Okanogan County Jail.
Louie was first taken to Mid-Valley Hospital, then to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for treatment of a broken hip, Sgt. Jeff Koplin said.
Louie was listed in satisfactory condition as of Monday afternoon.
Koplin said the collision allegedly occurred when Kent turned her head to look for a parking spot, and when she faced forward again it was too late to stop.
“It sounds like it spun him around and knocked him to the ground,” Koplin said.
She was arrested for driving under the influence-affected, which “means that even though your BAC (blood-alcohol content) may not be above the state’s legal limit, it was enough to impair your driving ability,” he said.
There were no passengers in Kent’s car. It was impounded and towed from the scene.
