Douglas deputies respond to hundreds of Bridgeport calls

— Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies wrote nearly 400 traffic citations in the Bridgeport area and responded to more than 100 calls in Mansfield during 2013.

Statistics from Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal show more than a third of the 394 Bridgeport-area citations — or 144 — were written for no liability insurance.

The next-most-frequent citation was for speeding, with 58 tickets written. After that came third-degree driving while suspended, at 37, and no valid operator’s license (with identification or expired), 31.

Twenty-five motorists were cited for child restraint violations and another nine were ticketed for seat belt violations. One received a ticket for having a child under age 13 in a location other than the back seat.

Three driving under the influence citations were issued.

In Mansfield, the most frequent type of call among 111 handled in 2013 was for animal problems.

Deputies responded to a dozen animal complaints.

Domestic disturbances came in second, with eight, followed by civil disagreements, at seven. A half-dozen calls each were received for public assistance, burglary, miscellaneous disturbances, parking problems or abandoned vehicles, traffic offenses and welfare checks.

There were three vehicle crashes, two thefts, one vehicle prowl and one vehicle theft.
