Rape suspect arrested in Florida



— An Omak man charged last spring with child rape and child molestation was returned to Okanogan County last week from Florida.

Steven Wayne Wells, 53, was charged April 26, 2013, with three counts of first-degree rape of a child and four counts of child molestation.

He had been in Florida and fought extradition, Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers said.

Chief Criminal Deputy Dave Rodriguez and detective Debbie Behymer traveled to Florida to pick up Wells, who is charged with committing two molestations with a girl, who was 16 in April when Wells was charged, either in August of 2007, or between Jan. 1, 2005 and Dec. 31, 2007.

The other charges allegedly were committed with a girl, who 13 as of last April, between Jan. 1, 2004, and Dec. 31, 2005.
