Republic girls top Inchelium, Cusick

Curlew nips Selkirk with 17-9 streak

— Republic held off Cusick, 64-60, in a spirited matchup Saturday.

The Tigers led 34-25 at the half and 51-40 after three periods before the Panthers mounted a comeback (20-14) in the fourth quarter.

Lily Beckwith scored 17 points (4 steals), Demi Jo Vaughn had 14 points (10 rebounds) and Shania Graham had 11 points (12 rebounds) for Republic.

Republic (13-1, 7-0) is at Columbia (4-8) on Friday. Selkirk (9-6) is at Republic on Saturday.

SELKIRK – Curlew rode a roller-coaster scoring ride to edge Selkirk, 51-44, on Saturday.

The Cougars led 29-21 at the half before the Rangers won the third, 14-5, to lead 35-34.

Curlew won the final period, 17-9.

Sisters Lindsey Gibson (25 points) and Haleigh Gibson (10 points), along with Kayleona Fanning (12 points), led the Cougars.

Inchelium (4-5) is at Curlew (7-6, 5-3) on Friday. The Cougars are at Cusick (7-4) on Saturday.

CASHMERE – Cashmere knocked off Omak, 58-19, in a Caribou Trail League game Saturday.

“Cashmere has a deep and talented team,” Omak coach Rolland Hansen said. “They pressured us defensively and kept our shooters from getting any open looks.”

Kaelyn Marchand led Omak with 6 points.

Chelan (7-5 overall, 4-4 league) is at Omak (7-7, 2-6) on Thursday.

BREWSTER – Monica Landdeck scored 31 points to help lead Brewster past Quincy, 76-35, on Saturday.

Chandler Smith had 21 points and Markie Miller 14 points for Brewster.

Cascade (10-4 overall, 4-4 league) is at Brewster (13-1, 7-1) on Friday.

REPUBLIC – No. 5 state-ranked Republic feasted on Inchelium, 78-34, in a league outing Friday.

Shania Graham finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds, 10 steals and seven assists to complete a triple-double for Republic.

Makenna Weltz finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Lily Beckwith added 12 points.

All three girls are freshmen.

Olivia Williams scored 10 points for Inchelium, which trailed 17-11 after the first quarter before being outscored 25-9 in the second period.

PATEROS – Pateros clamped pulled out a 45-33 victory over Moses Lake Christian Academy on Friday.

“All the girls stepped it on defense,” Pateros coach Sheri Mortimer said.

Moses Lake Christian’s Anna Yarbro, who entered the game averaging 21 points per game, finished with 5 points.

“We had a great third quarter putting up 18 and holding them to 5,” Mortimer said. “It was a really good win for us.”

Pateros (9-1 overall, 1-0 league), which entered the week ranked No. 5 with Republic by the Associated Press, is at Soap Lake ( 3-8, 2-3) on Saturday.

OKANOGAN – Okanogan devoured Cascade, 62-35, on Friday.

Janice Romero scored 15 points, Jordyn Boesel and Cayden Diefenbach each scored 14 points and Jill Townsend had 10 points for Okanogan.

Quincy (4-10 overall, 1-7 league) is at Okanogan (12-2, 6-2) on Friday.

CHELAN – Chelan kept its mistakes to a minimum in rushing past Tonasket, 57-12, on Friday.

The Goats committed 14 turnovers to 30 for the Tigers, who trailed 30-7 at the half.

Oroville (6-5, 2-0) is at Lake Roosevelt (3-6, 2-0) in a game between undefeated league teams Friday.
