Pateros shows strength, resiliency

The night was Thursday, July 17. A firestorm was coming, but Pateros residents didn’t know it until it was too late. Before the night was over, about 30 homes in the city and adjacent subdivisions would burn to the ground. Later that night and in the coming days, another 41 homes would burn at Alta Lake and other communities that consider themselves to be part of Pateros.

Murray, Cantwell call for additional firefighting money

A dozen U.S. senators, including Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, both D-Wash., have sent a letter to Senate leaders calling for swift passage of President Obama’s emergency supplemental funding request, which would allocate $615 million to fight wildfires.

Boots & Saddles Barrel Racing Club competes in Omak

Paige Sullivan had the fast time for 7-and-under barrel racers July 2 in the Omak Stampede Arena. Sullivan rode her horse, Sparky, to a time of 27.256 seconds for first in 1D in the Boots and Saddles Barrel Racing Club competition.
