Red Cross sets up second shelter

— A second Red Cross shelter is being set up at Pateros School, 344 W. Beach St., for people displaced by wildfires burning in the Methow Valley.

The relief agency earlier set up a shelter at the Twisp Grange Hall, 344 W. Second Ave. Information on how many people have come to the shelter was not immediately available.

Four fires, known as the Carlton Complex, are burning in the Methow Valley. One of the fires is burning south toward Pateros. Level 3 evacuation warnings are being issued by the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office for the Watson Draw, Paradise Hill, Bill Shaw, Indian Dan Canyon and French Creek areas.

Okanogan and Omak fire departments were called just before 3 p.m. for structure protection in Indian Dan Canyon. The Indian Dan Canyon Road intersects with U.S. Highway 97 between Pateros and Brewster.

Fires are burning southeast of Winthrop at Cougar Flats, near Pearrygin Lake, near Carlton on both sides of the Methow River and along French Creek.
