Art abounds in downtown Omak

Art will abound downtown during the annual Omak Kiwanis Art in the Park event, which is being joined by Paint the Town and a “Chair-ity” auction.

Art in the Park runs from 1-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in Civic League Park on South Ash Street.

The street will be closed from First Avenue to the Omak Fire Hall, 16 N. Ash St., for the event.

About 75 vendors will fill the park with a variety of handmade items, Artists of the Okanogan President Barbara Conner-Reed said.

“It’s going to be a full park,” she said.

Food vendors, entertainment, a Kiwanis information booth and Artists of the Okanogan display and information also will be offered.

Paint the Town will run in conjunction with the art fair. People of all ages and skill levels can sign up to paint scenes and activities around town. Paper and watercolor paints will be provided.

Awards of art supplies will be given Saturday afternoon in several age categories. Professional artists will compete separately.

Also running during the event is the “Chair-ity” auction. More than four dozen chairs have been painted and otherwise decorated by artists, school children, clubs and others.

They will be auctioned Saturday afternoon around 4-4:30 p.m., with artist George Traicheff coming from Okanagan Falls, B.C., to serve as auctioneer.

The Omak Chamber of Commerce will host a sourdough pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. on Ash Street.

Also planned during the weekend is the Omak Battleground 3-on-3 basketball tournament, starting at 7 p.m. Friday. Tournament play starts at 9 a.m. Saturday on Ash Street.
