Conconully offers fly fishing extravaganza

CONCONULLY – The Conconully Fly Fishing Rendezvous brings a free weekend of fly tying events to town Saturday and Sunday.

The Father’s Day Weekend Extravaganza runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or so each day at the Conconully Community Hall, 219 Main St., organizer Pat Holden said.

Participants can learn to fly cast in five minutes or less and tie a foam beetle in the same amount of time during fly tying demonstrations.

Children can learn to tie a fly from Patricia Herdt of Federation of Fly Fishers.

There will be a “garage sale type of thing,” too, with fishing tackle, spey rods, bamboo poles to knives to the backseat of a Jeep CJ-5, Holden said.



Alta Lake golf tournament returns

PATEROS – The Pateros Chamber of Commerce golf tournament returns Friday at Alta Lake Golf Course, 140 Alta Lake Road.

There will be a shotgun start for the team scramble event at 4 p.m.

There is a cost, which includes golf and a meal. You can also choose an option for a cart.

There will be a no-host beverage cart service.

There will be prizes for the best team, long drive and closest-to-the-pin.

Registration starts for Wenatchee

WENATCHEE — The inaugural Elite Hoop Effects Sunburn Classic 3-on-3 basketball tournament is planned for July 26-27 at Wenatchee’s Town Toyota Center. There will be 16 outdoor courts with high-quality rims set up in the parking lot for children and adults.

Sign-ups are available for divisions ranging from third grade to 40 and over. Elite Hoop Effects also offers a family and wheelchair division.

Registration, which is due by July 21, is available online at Elitehoopeffects.com.



Horse racing gallops into Osoyoos

OSOYOOS, B.C. — Horse racing returns Saturday to Osoyoos’ Desert Park.

Post time is 1:30 p.m. Parking is free, but there is an admission charge.

There will be a shuttle from the Osoyoos Baptist Church to the track.

A beer garden and concession also are planned.



Pateros prepares for 3-on-3 jamboree

PATEROS – The annual Apple Pie Jamboree 3-on-3 basketball tournament returns at 8 a.m. July 19 in the Pateros Mall Parking Lot.

Applications, which are due by July 14, can be downloaded at www.paterosapj.com.

There will also be a free throw and 3-point shooting contests. Cash prizes go to winners.



Hatchery offers free fishing for children WINTHROP — There will be free fishing Saturday at the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery for children age 12 and under.

The event runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the hatchery, 453A Twin Lakes Road.
