Chelan man killed in crash

— A Chelan man was killed Saturday when his pickup truck went off U.S. Highway 97 and landed in a pond about five miles south of town.

Cole A. Ballenger, 48, died at the scene, the Washington State Patrol said.

He was northbound at 1:17 a.m. when his vehicle went off the road on a curve, crossed a private driveway and came to rest in the pond. He was wearing a seatbelt.

It’s unknown of drugs or alcohol were involved, the patrol said. The crash was caused by speed to fast for conditions.

The truck was destroyed.
