Hymer stepping down from Pateros council

— City Councilman Alex Hymer is stepping down after almost a year on the job.

Hymer announced his decision to resign Monday during the City Council meeting.

The owner of SweetRiver Bakery said he is resigning his post because he is moving from a rental to a home outside of the city limits.

State law requires elected officials to reside within their municipal district.

Hymer was appointed to an unexpired council term last July, then re-elected in the November general election.

The next City Council meeting will be Hymer's last as an elected official. Hymer said he plans to remain active in the community.
