Brewster soccer stops Okanogan

OKANOGAN – Brewster soccer stopped Okanogan, 4-1, on Tuesday and kept a slim hold on second place in the Caribou Trail League standings.

The Bears struck first, with Luis Orozco scoring in the 14th minute off a corner kick that was headed by Isidro Najera.

After Cristian Talavera scored, Orozco struck two more goals.

Ricardo Garcia had two assists.

Goalkeeper Victor Chacon had seven saves including a penalty shot.

Tonasket (7-6 overall, 5-6 league) is at Brewster (10-2, 9-2) and Omak (0-13, 0-11) is at Okanogan (9-4, 7-4) on Tuesday.

TONASKET – Tonasket turned back Omak, 8-1, in a league soccer match Tuesday.

Omak’s goal was by German Ramirez on an assist by Ivan Sanchez.

Scoring for Tonasket was not received.

BRIDGEPORT – Liberty Bell nipped Bridgeport, 4-3, in a league soccer match Tuesday.

Scoring was not received.

‘Dogs stay in first

BREWSTER – Okanogan softball showed why it’s the team to beat by polishing off Brewster, 11-0, in five innings Tuesday.

“This was a big road win for us,” Okanogan coach Darin Radke said.

Makenzie Norwill (5I, 1H, 12K, 1BB, 0R) worked a no-hitter until Brewster’s Markie Miller broke it up with the Bears’ lone hit in the fifth.

“We can’t make mistakes against quality teams like Okanogan or they will make you pay for every one,” Brewster coach Rick Miller said.

Okanogan’s Cameron Moses knocked out a home run.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline (8-6 overall) is at Okanogan (13-2 overall, 10-0 league) for a non-league game Tuesday.

Okanogan (11) – Bauer 1-3, 2B; Moses 2-3, 2B, HR; Oules 2-3, 2B; Bryson 1-3; Townsend 2-2, 2 2B; Madden 1-3.

TONASKET – Omak broke open a close game to win, 13-1, in five innings over Tonasket on Tuesday.

Omak’s Kara Keaton tossed 2-hitter (3K, 1BB).

Omak (13) – Ken. Duck 1-3, 2R; Zacherle 1-2, 2R, 2B; Jackson 1-3, 2R; Reed 2-3; Kod. Duck 2-3.

Tonasket (1) – King 1-2, Martinez 1-2.

In other games Tuesday, Bridgeport slipped past Liberty Bell, 7-6, Lake Roosevelt blanked Manson, 20-0, and Pateros plastered Oroville, 23-7.

VanderWeide cards 101

OKANOGAN – Chelan beat Okanogan’s girls in golf Tuesday, 418-502, at the Okanogan Valley Golf Club.

Okanogan varsity girls included Vanessa VanderWeide (101), Ana Baum (107), Emily Rawson (138) and Karina Baum (156).

Chelan’s Casey Jackson (93) was the girls medalist.

Teams are now preparing for the Caribou Trail League and district championships May 13 at Lake Chelan Golf Course.
