Mansfield resident accused of exposing himself to girls

A local man was arrested Saturday evening after allegedly exposing himself to three underage girls from his apartment balcony.

John D. Steelman, 30, was arrested for indecent exposure and indecent exposure to persons under the age of 14.

He was booked into the Okanogan County Jail after Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a complaint of lewd conduct at the 300 block of East Railroad Avenue at about 6:22 p.m., according to Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal.

“Witnesses said that a male had walked out on his balcony in the nude. He had sprayed shaving cream all over himself,” Gjesdal said.

“The male was yelling and exposed himself to a 9-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl, and a 15-year-old girl.”

A nearby adult who saw what happened yelled at the man – later identified Steelman – to go back inside.

By the time deputies arrived, Steelman had put some clothes on, “but there were other clothes scattered on the front deck and he had telltale globs of shaving cream on his head,” Gjesdal said.

Steelman reportedly yelled and cursed at the deputy who attempted to speak to him, the sheriff said.
