Curlew softball takes No. 1 seed to playoffs

Bears, Omak play loser-out game

Curlew softball earned the No. 1 seed to postseason after splitting with Almira/Coulee-Hartline on Saturday.

Curlew (16-2 overall) won the opener 5-4 before ACH (14-2 overall) won the second game 11-8.

The Cougars, who tied ACH for the league title with 13-1 league records, got the top seed on a tiebreaker.

The District 7 tournament opens Saturday at Kettle Falls with No. 6 Republic (3-15) playing No. 3 Selkirk (9-5) in game 1 and No. 5 Cusick (8-8) taking on No. 4 Wilbur-Creston (6-9) in game 2 in loser-out games at 11 a.m.

The game 1 winner plays Curlew and the game 2 winner plays ACH at 1:15 p.m.

The losers of the semifinal games play game 6 and the winners play game 5 in 3 p.m. games.

Play continues May 24 with the loser of game 5 taking on the winner of game 6 at noon.

The winner advances to take on the game 5 winner at 2 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament.

If a second championship game is needed it’s planned for 3:45 p.m.

Only two teams advance to the state tournament.

BREWSTER – Brewster topped Tonasket, 11-1 and 23-0, to close out the Caribou Trail League softball season Saturday.

The Bears (8-11), seeded No. 4 in the CTL, were to play No. 5 Omak (11-9) in game 2 on Tuesday in loser-out games.

No. 3 Cascade (11-8) was to take on No. 6 Chelan (9-11) in game 1 that is also loser-out.

The winner of game 2 takes on CTL champion Okanogan (18-2) and winner of game 1 takes on Cashmere (12-8) in 3 p.m. games at Chelan.

Final games Saturday will be at 5 p.m.

Three teams will advance from the league tournament to a bi-district tournament with Northeast 1A League.

PATEROS – Pateros swept Lake Roosevelt, 16-0 and 10-3, on Saturday.

No stats were received.

Pateros (13-2) plays a doubleheader at Bridgeport (14-3) on May 19.

BRIDGEPORT – Bridgeport softball took a pair from Oroville, 16-5, and 16-3, on Friday.

No stats were received.

Pateros (13-2) plays two games at Bridgeport (14-3) on May 19.

OKANOGAN – Okanogan claimed the Caribou Trail League softball championship by getting past Omak, 14-2 and 4-1, on Thursday.

No scoring was received for either game.

WINTHROP – Liberty Bell softball dismantled Manson, 18-3, in a North-Central Washington League game Thursday.

Manson (0-12) was to play at Liberty Bell (11-5) on Thursday.

The Mountain Lions were to close league play with a doubleheader at Lake Roosevelt (4-11) on Saturday.
