Miss Republic pageant is Friday

REPUBLIC — The Miss Republic pageant will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the school gym, 30306 state Highway 20.

The Miss Republic Program/Republic Chamber of Commerce program’s theme is “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Candidates will be judged on a personal interview, poise and stage presence, and talent.

The winner will represent Republic and Ferry County as an area ambassador.

Organizers invite past royalty to attend and be recognized during the festivities.

The community’s annual Cinco de Mayo fundraiser dinner will be from 5-7 p.m. at the elementary school.



Spring Birdathon planned for June 7

OKANOGAN — The Okanogan Spring Birdathon Big Day will be June 7, with bird watchers fanning out across the county and later gathering in the Sinlahekin Wildlife Area.

Birders will meet at 6:30 a.m. at 2050 James Ave., Okanogan.

People with all levels of birding ability welcome. People should bring binoculars and lunch, and are asked to RSVP to 509-429-8167.



Lake cruise is prize in school benefit

OROVILLE – A raffle for a cruise on Lake Osoyoos will benefit North Valley Community Schools, 1008 Ironwood St.

The winner and up to five companions will get appetizers, beverages, music and the cruise.

The drawing will be June 15; the winner need not be present to win.



Students raise money for cause

OKANOGAN – Students at Okanogan Middle School raised almost $900 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with the Pennies for Patients drive.

Students in Dean Klepec’s class raised the most money, $358.40, and won a pizza or doughnut party.

Karen Chesledon’s class placed second, with $120.77, and Trisha Bradley’s was third with $118.15.



Cheerleaders offer to help with chores

OKANOGAN — People can hire Okanogan cheerleaders to help with spring cleaning.

The girls are available for housework, painting, window washing, yard work, garden work, cleaning the camper and other spring chores, adviser Trisha Bradley said.

Each girl is available to work for $10 an hour, with a preference of at least a two-hour block.

Cheer workers can be arranged by contacting Bradley at the high school.
