Fire, freeze warnings issued

— The National Weather service has issued a red flag warning for portions of Okanogan County and a freeze warning for Ferry County.

The red flag warning was issued this morning for wildfire danger.

“Dry air coming into the Okanogan Valley will combine with increasing winds through the afternoon. Strongest winds are expected from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.”

Northern winds froim 10-20 mph are expected, with gusts upward of 30 mph, weather officials said. Low humidity is expected. The warning is in effect until 8 p.m. this evening.

“The combination of winds, low humidity and dry fuels may result in rapid fire spread,” meteorologists said.

The National Weather Service has also announced a freeze warning for northern Idaho and Washington, including Ferry County.

“A dry and cold Canadian air mass will settle across the area, beginning Wednesday night,” meteorologists said.

The warning is in effect from 11 a.m. today, until 11 a.m. Friday.

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop into the 20-30 degree range, officials said, warning sensitive plants will be susceptible to frost damage.
