Burglar found hiding in shop

— The quick reporting of a burglary-in-progress led to the arrest of a 60-year-old man Friday.

Timothy Burts of Wenatchee was arrested for second-degree burglary and attempted residential robbery, Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said Monday. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

According to a sheriff's records, an elderly woman spotted the burglary in progress at 5:10 p.m. in the 15000 block of Badger Mountain Road outside of town.

The 70-year-old woman reported a "disheveled looking male carrying read shirt and wearing black boxers" attempting to open several doors of her house, the report said.

"Luckily, they were locked," Gjesdal said of the doors. "The intruder then went inside the shop, which was unlocked."

Deputies arrived 14 minutes after dispatch received the call.

"The deputies searched the premises and located the intruder in a nearby shop," Gjesdal said, noting the suspect was later identified as Burts.

Burts was booked into the Chelan County Jail.

Records show Burts told deputies he was looking for tools to fix his vehicle.

"The citizen is commended for her quick action and accurate description," Gjesdal said, declining to release the victim's name. "The responding deputies did an excellent job arriving quickly and taking the suspect into custody."
