— The Omak High School girls tennis team won three matches last week, including 5-0 over Tonasket on Saturday, to remain undefeated this season.

“Leading the way for the Pioneers is the undefeated doubles team of senior Danielle Berntsen and sophomore Alex O’Dell,” Omak coach Lance O’Dell said. “Berntsen and O’Dell are 9-0 on the season and have yet to drop a single set.”

Also undefeated for the Pioneers is singles player Hannah Love, who has bounced back and forth between No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Ivan Sanchez of Omak works the net in a doubles match partner Todd Kammers against Tonasket on Saturday.

“Love is 6-0 and had a huge win Monday night at Pateros where she defeated EmmaLee Luft from Pateros 4-6, 6-1, 6-3,” O’Dell said. “Luft is one of the better players among B schools in our area so this was a big win for Hannah.”

The Omak boys picked up their first win of the season by edging Tonasket, 3-2.

“The boy’s received a big boost to the team with the return of ninth grader Alex Thornton, who has been out all season due to injury,” coach O’Dell said. “Alex had three solid matches this week, picking up wins in all three. The last of which was against Tonasket, which helped secure the victory for our boys.”

Omak’s No. 1 doubles team of Gabe Holz and Devyn Grillo suffered their first loss of the season in Quincy Thursday night. They lost in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 2-6, but then rebounded nicely to pick up the win over Tonasket Saturday with a score of 6-0, 6-0.

Omak’s girls won 4-1 and the boys lost 3-2 at Pateros on Monday.

At Quincy, the Omak girls won 53-2and the boys lost 4-1.

The Omak boys are 1-7-1 overall.
