CHELAN A local woman died Wednesday afternoon when her car collided with a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 97 north of town near Milepost 237.
Maria D.R. Ruiz Herrejon, 25, died at the scene, the Washington State Patrol said, noting the highway was shut down in both directions for cleanup and investigation..
She was northbound in her Pontiac Grand Am at 12:52 p.m. and attempting to pass another northbound vehicle when her car hit a southbound Dodge Ram pickup truck head-on.
Truck driver Ramiro Villagrana, 57, and a passenger, Marisel Villagrana, 61, both of Brewster, were injured, the patrol reported. They were taken by ambulance to Lake Chelan Community Hospital in Chelan.
After impact, Villagrana’s vehicle overturned and came to rest in the southbound ditch, the patrol said.
The crash remains under investigation; no charges are anticipated, the patrol said.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, the patrol said. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt.
Both vehicles were destroyed.
The highway reopened at 4 p.m.
