OMAK The state Department of Natural Resources is setting up coordination centers so qualified residents can join the fire fight in Okanogan County.
“If people want to help, we’d like them to contact our coordinators so we can work on getting them safely and appropriately involved,” Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark said. “We appreciate all offers of qualified and trained support.”
Coordination centers will open at 7 a.m. tomorrow in Omak and Colville for Red Card firefighters and Blue Card equipment operators.
Deployment to fire areas will depend on the availability of professional firefighting staff to accompany and direct actions.
Natural Resources officials plan to organize training sessions for residents physically capable of volunteering in the effort to suppress fire.
Coordination centers will be established at:
- Omak City Hall, 2 N. Ash St., Omak — Jay Guthrie will oversee the center.
- State Department of Transportation, 440 N. U.S. Highway 395, Colville — Julie Sacket will oversee the center.
