North Star Fire heads east, more evacuation orders go out

— More evacuations have been announced for the North Star Fire, burning on the Colville Indian Reservation.

As of mid-morning Thursday, the fire had charred 75,867 acres.

The fire started in the Haden Road-Moses Meadows area. It has burned north into the Aeneas Valley area and eastward toward Nespelem.

Winds have pushed the fire to the east to Central Peak Mountain. Level 3 evacuation notices have been issued from the area south of Nanamkin Creek northward along state Highway 21 to Nineteen Mile Creek, Mount Tolman Fire Center spokeswoman Kathy Moses said.

The Aeneas Valley area also is being evacuated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

State fire assistance has been mobilized for the North Star Fire.

The town of Nespelem requested state assistance.

No homes have been lost.
