Basketball games tonight could clear up district seeding

— District seeding is on the line tonight with Central Washington 2B League boys and girls basketball teams playing final regular season games.

The District 5/6 double elimination 2B tournament starts Feb 11 at Eastmont high school and junior high gyms, spokesman Kevin Terris of Tonasket said.

There are play-in games to district between the South No. 4 and North No. 5 boys and girls teams. The top four boys and four girls teams from district advance to regionals.

The girls district tournament opens at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday with the North No. 3 playing South No. 2 in the junior high school gym, and the winner of the South No. 4/North 5 taking on North No. 1 in the high school gym.

At 6:45 p.m., South No. 3 plays North No. 2 in the junior high school gym and North No. 4 takes on South No. 1 in the high school gym.

The boys district tournament opens at 5 p.m. with North No. 3 playing South No. 2 in the middle school gym, and South No. 4/North No. 5 taking on North No. 1 in the high school gym.

At 8:30 p.m., South No. 3 plays North No. 2 in the junior high gym and North No. 4 plays South No. 1 in the high school gym.

District continues Feb. 14, 19 and 21.

The following are the various scenarios for tonight and play-in games.

South Boys:

Waterville beats Soap Lake – Waterville 3rd seeded and Soap Lake 4th seeded

Soap Lake beats Waterville – Soap Lake 3rd seeded and Waterville 4th seeded

South Girls:

Waterville beats Soap Lake – Waterville 4th seeded

Soap Lake beats Waterville – Waterville and Soap Lake are tied (split their league games).

Tiebreaker game between Waterville and Soap Lake would be played on Saturday, February 7th at Mansfield starting at 6:00 p.m. Soap Lake (white uniforms) will be the home team and the official scorebook and Waterville (dark uniforms) will be the away team on the scoreboard.

The winner of the contest would be the No. 4 seeded team from the South Division and would qualify for the play-in game on Monday in Brewster.

North Boys

Liberty Bell beats Manson - Tonasket 5th seeded and would qualify for the play-in game.

Manson beats Liberty Bell - Tonasket/Manson/Oroville would all be tied with 4-10 records.

Tiebreaker game to break the 3 way tie would be played on Saturday, February 7th at Brewster starting at 7:30 p.m. Tonasket would receive the first round bye with 2 league wins vs. Oroville and 1 league win vs. Manson.

1st game - Manson (white uniforms) would be the home team and the official scorebook and Oroville (dark uniforms) will be the away team on the scoreboard.

2nd game - Winner of the first contest vs. Tonasket (white uniforms). Tonasket will be the home team and the official scorebook. If Oroville (dark uniforms) wins the first game, they will be the visiting team on the scoreboard. If Manson (dark uniforms) wins the first game, they will be the visiting team on the scoreboard. Manson would be the only school to need to bring both sets of uniforms, but I would suggest that each school bring both sets.

The winner of the second contest would be the 5th seeded team from the North Division and would qualify for the play-in game on Monday in Brewster. The league has agreed to two (8 minute quarters) with two full timeouts and one 30 second time out per contest. Warm-up for both contests will be 15 minutes.

South Girls

Liberty Bell beats Manson - Liberty Bell will be 5th seed and will qualify for the play-in game.

PLAY-IN GAMES - If the tiebreaker games are not necessary, then the following would be scheduled.

Girls Game

The game will be played on Saturday, February 7th at Brewster High School starting at 6:00 p.m. The play-in game between Liberty Bell (white uniforms) will be the home team and the official scorebook and Waterville (dark uniforms) will be the away team on the scoreboard.

Special Notes:

  • We could have the south playing a tiebreaker game with the girls, but the north not needing a tiebreaker game for the girls. If this happens and the boys play-in game or tiebreaker game is confirmed, then their game time will not change from a 7:30 p.m. start even though we would not have a girls' play-in or tiebreaker game first.
  • If a tiebreaker game occurs for either the boys or girls in either division, then the play-in game would be played at Brewster High School on Monday, February 9th. If we have a Monday girls' and boys' games (doubleheader), then the start times would be 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. In the chance of only one game being played on Monday, then the start time will be 7:00 p.m.
