Driver dies after falling asleep at wheel

— A Seattle woman was killed the morning of New Years Eve when she fell asleep at the wheel and crashed along Interstate 90.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Giselle Naughton, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene 24 miles west of town.

Her two passengers, Justin F. Wyatt, 26, of Seattle, and Zea Naughton, 3, of Spokane, were transported via ambulance to Adams Rural Hospital, the patrol said. Their conditions were not released.

Giselle Naughton's body was transported from the scene by Danekas Funeral home.

Authorities did not say how the driver and toddler were related.

The crash occurred at 6:58 a.m., the patrol reported, noting both adults were wearing seatbelts and the toddler was properly restrained.

The patrol reported that Giselle Naughton fell asleep while driving her blue 2011 Toyota Scion eastbound on the interstate.

As the car drifted off the road, the driver awoke, overcorrected and the car overturned, the patrol said. Officials have yet to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
