Fire in Canada spreads to U.S.

— A wildfire burning in Canada has spread to a remote location in the Pasayten Wilderness Area on the north face of Arnold Peak.

“There’s a fire in Canada that has spread into the U.S.,” U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Shannon O’Brien said Thursday afternoon. “It’s burning in high elevation.”

She said the blaze is about 230 acres total, including what has burned in Canada. It is unknown at this point how many acres have burned in the U.S.

“In all truth, the fire manager and the agency administrators know they have a situation,” she said. The next step is to determine what resources will be used to attack the blaze.

The cause of the fire was not available at press time.
