Woman injured in plane crash near Quincy

QUINCY - A local woman received minor injuries this morning when she was struck by a light plane that was attempting to take off from a Grant County roadway.

Rebecca J. Gregg, 57, was standing along the road and taking pictures of the attempted flight by Randall W. Grandpre of Osburn, Idaho. She was taken by ambulance to Quincy Valley Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, Grant County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Foreman said.

Grandpre was attempting to taken off from Road R Northwest in a homemade Zenith CH701 single-engine plane. During the attempted takeoff, the plane’s wing struck arborvitae shrubs along the road, causing the plane to veer off course.

The plan, which never lifted off the road, then crashed into the yard of 6141 Road R N.W., Foreman said.

Grandpre was not injured. A 13-year-old female passenger on the plane received a minor leg injury. She was treated at the scene.

Foreman said Grandpre decided to use the road as a runway because a field he would have used was muddy.

The incident is under investigation.
