ORONDO – Four fires are burning in Douglas County, including one along U.S. Highway 2 at Zanol Road.
No further information is available on the Orondo blaze, which apparently was ignited by a lightning strike.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said there is no information on fire size or whether structures are threatened, Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said on Monday evening.
Others fires are at Road 6 Northwest and Road A Northwest, near Withrow; Road 11 Northwest and Road K Northwest, near Mansfield, and near state Highway 17 at Leahy Junction.
All are believed to be lightning-caused.
The Mansfield fire is under control. The Leahy fire is reported to be small and under observation.
In addition, U.S. Highway 2 through Pine Canyon, between Orondo and Waterville, was closed for a short time today for a rock slide. There were no injuries and the road now is clear, Gjesdal said.
He urged people to keep an eye out for smoke or flames, and to call 911 immediately if either is spotted.
