— Shorewood Christian doused Curlew’s goal of a state 1B boys championship by coming on strong late for a 75-61 victory Thursday night.

The Cougars charged out to a 20-10 first quarter lead before Shorewood started warming up.

Curlew led 26-25 into the second half before the Lions roared to life, winning the third quarter 31-5.

The Cougars fought hard in the fourth, but it was not enough, winning the period 30-19.

“We had a great first quarter,” Curlew coach Seth Cribby said. “We heard they had slow starts. That showed that tonight.”

Cribby said his team did not matchup well with the Tigers, who used its taller players as guards.

“They were quick on the perimeter,” Cribby said. “Those were tough second and third quarters. We played more like ourselves in the fourth.”

Curlew plays a loser-out game with Pomeroy at 2 p.m. Friday.

“It looks like the westside teams came over to play,” Cribby sqid.
