U.S. Highway 97 reopens following fatal crash

— U.S. Highway 97 has reopened after being closed most of the day because of a fatal crash north of town.

The road reopened just before 2 p.m. It had been closed from milepost 213 at Orondo to milepost 235 at Chelan Falls because of the collision involving a minivan, school bus and box truck.

An occupant of the minivan was killed. The box truck’s two occupants were seriously injured and approximately 43 students and the bus driver were taken to Confluence Health in Wenatchee for minor injuries.

The crash was reported at 8:11 a.m. near the entrance to Daroga State Park.

No details about how the crash occurred have been released, nor have the names of those involved.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash, with assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
