— The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses to last week’s fatality collision involving a school bus and two other vehicles on U.S. Highway 97 north of town.

The collision, which happened around 8:10 a.m. March 5, involved a box truck, passenger car and a loaded school bus. The driver of the car was fatally injured and numerous others were injured, including a passenger in the car, both truck occupants, the bus driver and several students.

Detectives from the District 6 Washington State Patrol office and the agency’s Major Accident Investigation Team are conducting the investigation. The investigation is a specialty unit that responds to collisions statewide from its office in Monroe.

Detectives from both units are collision reconstructionists who investigate crash events using the human, vehicle, environment model to determine causal factors, Trooper Darren Wright said.

As part of the investigation, detectives are seeking witnesses who may have seen events leading up to or the actual crash.

Those with information or are asked to contact Detective Dan Richmond at 509-682-8142 or Sgt. Kurt Adkinson at 509-765-6175.
