Police seek public help in Omak robbery investigation

OMAK – The police are seeking the public’s help in the investigation of an armed robbery at Stampede Mini Mart early Saturday morning.

The robber, dressed in black and wearing a black over-the-face snowmobile mask, wielded a knife at the clerk and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, Omak Police Department Sgt. Jeff Koplin said. The male clerk was not identified because of the ongoing investigation.

After taking the money, the man left the store, 111 Riverside Drive, on foot.

Koplin said police were alerted immediately, at 2:11 a.m., and began combing the surrounding neighborhood. Instead of finding the man, they located a nearby party whose attendees scattered on foot.

That made it difficult to tell whether the suspect was still in the area, he said.

The clerk was not injured. No one else was in the store, which is open all night.

Koplin said the suspect is white or Hispanic and 5 foot 9 inches to 5 foot 11 inches with a heavy build. He was wearing a black coat and black mask, and carried a knife with 10-inch blade.

Officers Brien Bowling and Darren Duncan are the investigating officers.

Anyone who has any information about the robbery or the suspect is asked to contact the police department, 509-826-0383.
